Video/Online games and the challenges of life.

Online games are one of the most frequent activities of people surfing the internet. They certainly have surpassed video game consoles in popularity. However, I find that video games online are extremly addictive. A simple game like Copter use to be one of my worst past times, you could spend hours on end trying to get as far as you can without crashing, alas the difficulty of the game just keeps increasing the further you get. Perhaps this is a key feature of many games, to keep us addicted to playing it. We thrive on challenge as a species, with video games seemingly taking the place of many physical activities we use to do as a challenge. Why is it that we like video games so much? I believe that it represents challenges that have long gone past us. I'm not talking about University ( that's still challenging) or work. I'm talking about things we use to do to get food for example before we had transport. We had to kill things to eat before our culture evolved to what it is now. We still maintain our thrive for a challenge as a species, because we've lost so many others ( like hunting for food). Obviously there are still people that hunt and catch food, but not many in the Western World. Video games are our new challenge.
