Speed Gaming

A couple weeks ago I found myself sitting around really bored. To counter this I decided that I would go on miniclip (gaming site) and see what they had so I could pass the time. Eventually I came across the 8 ball pool which is basically playing pool online against other people from around the world. I got really hooked on the game and found myself doing nothing else but play this game. I even ended up playing the game until 5 in the morning, the fact that I couldn’t sleep also contributed to this. But it amazed me that this basic small game on the internet could keep me entertained for hours on end and stop me from doing other things, like socializing with the rest of the world. It showed me how we could get lost in the online realm and boycott the real world. It made me curious to wonder if this happened to a lot of other people to the extent it did to me. I ended up playing the game for several days almost non-stop before I finally got sick of it and stopped all together. It also made me curious as to how I went from playing the game so much to nothing and this has happened to me before with these kinds of online internet games. I really did get immersed in the game however I was still aware that I was wasting all my time yet it did not stop me till I got sick of it. I think this happens a lot with video games unless we are hard core fans of the game, people get immersed for a certain period and then they just stop. Really I was curious to see if other people shared the same experience with ‘speed gaming’ (term I coined) and what they thought of it.
