Sounds in Video Games

Sounds in games.

Sounds in games are crucial to add to the atmosphere of the game. The sounds must fit the scene that you are playing in, for example in a horror game such as Silent Hill the music will be ambient and usually crescendo's when something scary is going to happen. Sounds are also imperative for gameplay in a sense that it tricks the senses further into the simulation. Sound can help players in games such as Counter Strike, listen to footsteps and track where the enemy is using your sound perception. Sound, is one of the most important, if not the most important senses needed to be manipulated to give you a feeling of a game. A game without sound is a carton without milk. The outcome of the game's success would be affected drastically without the sound setting the mood of the game.

  1. I agree. Sounds shape the entire mood of the game, similar to the way movies do. Building suspense, adding humour. When watching a horror film on mute it is hardly as scary as hearing the sounds and music that builds the suspense.
